On Tuesday we travelled to SSIS to take on the best teams from around Saigon in the annual SISAC City Championships. With 5 schools to take on, the boys had to be on top form.
They were drawn in a group with ABC and SSIS knowing they needed to finish in the top 2 to make the semi-final.
The boys were outstanding in both games with goals galore coming from all over the pitch. Great strikes from Louis and Sam, and also Christian finishing off brilliant passing team moves. The boys were in superb form. James Kim also came off the bench to grab two goals.
BIS 6-0 ABC
BIS 6-2 SSIS
Having won their group, the team were straight into the quarter final with no rest. AIS were our opponents and they had just had a 40-minute break to refresh their legs.
A tired looking team ground out a good first half to lead 3-1 at half time, fresh legs from the subs bench came on to help, before Louis once again took over, scoring a hat trick of fantastic goals to make the game safe.
BIS 6-1 AIS
The final drew us against ISHCMC who had narrowly beaten the boys in a friendly fixture just a week earlier. A quick free kick and a stunning strike gave ISHCMC a half time 1-0 lead. The call at half time was “It’s only one goal we can do this!” Sam stepped up in fantastic fashion. First he hit a sweet first time shot after fantastic work from Christian to level the scores. Shortly after he picked up the ball on the halfway line and darted past two players. As he reached the edge of the box he faked past another defender before slotting the ball into the corner to give BIS the lead.
A 20-minute delay for lightning could have worked against the BIS team, but some epic defending and immense concentration meant the last 10 minutes was seen out and BIS HCMC were crowned the SISAC City Champions.
BIS 2-1 ISHCMC
