Open Days
Our ‘Be Ambitious’ philosophy at The British International School Shanghai focuses on supporting students academically, pastorally and socially. We want them to succeed in whatever they choose to do and to find their passion in a field that excites them. Today, we celebrate the academic achievements of our Year 13 IB Diploma Programme students whose results are simply exceptional.
Given the challenges that have been faced by students, families and teachers in Shanghai in the last few months, these results are even more remarkable and testament to the resilience that this cohort has shown and their ability to stick together and overcome adversity.
The Class of 2022 scored an average of 38.3 points each, out of the maximum of 45 available. For such a large cohort of students, this really is a special achievement. 52% of this year’s graduates from The British International School Shanghai scored 40 or more points. Their average subject grade was 6 (out of 7) and 100% of students passed the IB Diploma Programme. One student scored a perfect 45 and two scored 44.
Parents and teachers are very proud of the performances of all of our students at the school. It is not only their academic credentials that have supported their entry to university courses. Our students compete with students from around the world with similar scores and so they need to demonstrate that they have taken opportunities throughout their educational journey – by participating in activities in sports, performing arts, STEAM and internationalism. Our graduates have taken these opportunities at the school, which has developed their character, resilience, leadership, creativity, collaborative skills and empathy.
Our students now have exciting plans ahead of them as they begin their new journeys at universities around the world. Some of this year’s BISS graduates are heading to UCLA, Minerva, McGill, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, Hong Kong University, Durham University, University of Sydney, University College London and the University of Edinburgh. They will be studying subjects ranging from computer science to astrophysics and architecture to biomedical sciences. Most importantly, they have found a passion for learning in an area that excites them. They can take confidence from the achievements of their IB results and take this forward into their degree studies.
My congratulations to all our graduates this year. We are so very proud of what you have achieved. My thanks go to you for the commitment and determination that you have shown throughout your IB Diploma Programme and of course, to your friends, families and teachers for their care, expertise and guidance in supporting you on your journeys.
The team set off to Chengdu to compete in the first NAE Multisports games since 2019. Twenty-one boys and girls, from Years 4 and 5 were looking forward to competing in a two-day tournament of athletics and football. For most of these students, this was their first sports tour and there was a great deal of excitement, sprinkled with a touch of nervousness.
"One of the things we valued most about BISS when deciding on Logan’s enrollment was the school’s commitment to providing equal educational opportunities to all prospective students. Initially, we worried about potential gaps between students and even felt anxious about Logan’s own shortcomings. But in the end, with the teachers’ support and encouragement, he has grown step by step with sincerity."
As our Year 13 students prepare for IB exams, they continue to receive exciting university offers from around the world. New additions to our list include renowned institutions such as New York University (Shanghai and New York), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy), and McGill University (Canada). Students applying to the United States have earned acceptances from respected universities like New York University, Tufts University, University of Southern California and University of California San Diego.
