Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed the extended weekend with loved ones. Last week was short but action pack here at the Secondary Campus.

The conclusion of our World Book Week celebrations was truly fantastic. The Fancy Dress Day was a real highlight, with so many creative costumes bringing our favourite book characters to life. The book fair was also a great success, sparking enthusiasm for reading across the school. It was wonderful to see our students embracing their imaginations and sharing their love of literature.

Meanwhile, our IGCSE and IB examinations continue to be underway. We are extremely proud of all our students for approaching this important milestone with such determination and resilience. Their hard work and focus are commendable, and we continue to offer them every support during this crucial time.

Looking ahead, we are excited to prepare for our International Day celebrations at the end of June, as well as our annual Swimming Gala. We will be sharing more information about these events very soon and look forward to your involvement.

Y12 Visit to HKU – Mrs. Holt

On Wednesday, our Year 12s enjoyed a tour and lecture at Hong Kong University. We were able to visit the whole campus from tutorial rooms in historical buildings to state of the art lecture halls.

Understandably, our students were impressed by the facilities. With 15 subjects ranked in the top 20 worldwide, our students were inspired walking around this incredible university which is on our doorstep!

After the tour, we were treated to a university lecture on maths. Mr McGuiggan was particularly happy with this section of the day! We learned about Bayes’ Theorem and applied this to the probability of being accepted in HKU and Covid testing.

We then had an admissions talk outlining possible pathways at HKU and how to apply.

An inspirational morning at the ever-impressive HKU.

Season 3 Sports Round up – Last term

Three of our badminton teams made it through to the season finals, unfortunately the U20 team missed out on their finals – here's how the teams got on.

U14 Boys
In the U/14 Boys Badminton semi-final, the team faced a tough challenge against Carmel, ultimately losing a thrilling match 3-2.

Marcus set the tone in the first singles with a dominant performance, winning 21-11 and granting his opponent few opportunities. The first doubles match saw Tony and Kasten in a tightly contested battle that ended 14-21, marred by lapses in communication. Jaxton delivered the highlight of the series in the second singles, showcasing remarkable skill and winning 21-15 in a series of extraordinary rallies.

In the second doubles, Preston and Jasper struggled initially, giving away easy points before narrowly losing 21-17. Wallace's third singles match was a missed opportunity, marked by poor shot selection.

Despite the semi-final setback, the team bounced back in the third/fourth place playoff against DC, winning decisively 3-1.

U16 Boys
Following a successful regular badminton season the U16 boys team qualified for their finals at Singapore International School on the afternoon of the final day of last term.

The team faced a strong SIS team in their semi-final match and despite some valiant efforts the team unfortunately lost 3 games to 1.

The bronze medal match was against CAIS who narrowly lost their semi-final against VSA.

Some switching of player seedings saw a well poised tie at 1-1 after the first singles and doubles games. Unfortunately, CAIS proved too strong and won the match 3-1 overall.

Nonetheless a great effort over the course of the season and great preparation for next year with many of the team only in Year 10 who will have benefitted from the experience.

U16 Girls
On Wednesday 2nd April the U16 girls’ badminton squad headed to Malvern College for the Division 3 league finals. Our semi-final match was against DSC. Despite some great play from our singles players and doubles pairs, DSC came out the victors. This meant we went into the 3rd/4th playoff for the bronze medal.

Our Bronze medal match was against Malvern. The girls were determined to come away with a medal. However, the match went 2 games all with the 5th game the decider for the medal. After a hard-fought singles match, Summer brought home the bronze medal to the team by winning the game.

Well done to all the squads this season, they have worked hard both on and off the court.

Go Knights!

Match reports

U12 Boys Football
A whirlwind start for the U12 boys' footballers on Monday 28th April against a competitive Malvern College.

Despite the heat and humidity both teams competed at a high tempo playing some nice passages of football and being committed to the cause.

A fine strike from the edge of the area by Kaito saw the boys lead 1-0 at half time.

An end to end second half saw the game open-up as both teams started to tire.

Some lovely strikes from distance saw the boys hit the cross bar twice and force some good saves by the opposition keeper. Malvern returned the compliment and tested Jayden playing in goal during the second half and hit the bar too.

Malvern won the game winning 2-1 managing to score when pressuring our defense.

A draw would’ve been a fair result, but this happens in football.

The team put in a performance that they need to aspire to every week regardless of the scoreline. They can all walk with their heads held high this week after that performance.

U14 Netball
On Wednesday 30th April the newly formed U14 Netball squad played their opening season match away against Malvern College. This fresh team have not played a fully competitive game yet, so this was a good test of their abilities and team performance.

The team started the first quarter slowly, with a few mis-passes and miscommunications causing MCHK to take the lead. However, by half time and with a few position changes the team began to move, pass and communicate much better. Going into the 4th quarter we were in the lead by 1 goal. With some excellent shooting and defending at either end of the court we managed to hold the lead winning at the whistle 9 – 7. Go Knights!
