NAIS Pudong Scholarships
Maths in the Primary School at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong is taught one lesson each day. Lessons are taught by class teachers who are helped by our highly skilled teaching assistants. We stretch, support, and challenge our students in every lesson by providing questions and strategies that require our students to reason, justify and argue their mathematical thinking. At NAIS, we build creativity in Maths by using a range of well-tried, proven methods and skills based on current research. We teach Maths following best practice and this helps us build considerate learners, who work together with others to solve problems. Our mission is to teach and prepare all our students for real life situations they will encounter not just in school as children but in the future when they become adults.
As a Primary School, we recently celebrated International Maths Day. During the afternoon, we joined up in our houses and did a range of different Maths activities, with the objective of the children observing how Maths is used in everyday life. For example, Mathletics, the connection between sports and Maths; Maths Art - how famous artists use Maths to create their paintings; brain teasers to test our student’s resilience and thinking skills. In the Secondary School, Year 12 students showed leadership by working together to create an engaging activity for our Primary School students. Our children thoroughly enjoyed working with some of the older students at NAIS to celebrate their learning. The aim of the day was to celebrate all the hard work our students put into their Maths lessons and to develop a lifelong love for Maths. We definitely achieved both!
At Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong (NAIS), we believe firmly that every child has the potential to become a confident communicator and writer. Across Early Years and Primary, and leading into our Key Stage 3 transition, we utilise the Talk for Writing approach to accelerate our students’ progress in reading and writing and, crucially, in their speaking and listening.
Last Sunday, NAIS Pudong had a Spring Fling filled with laughter and joy! International families from Shanghai gathered on campus and had a wonderful family day with their children and parents on a sunny spring day.
Football season this year was fantastic! This was the first U19 girls team we’ve had in many years, and I’m in complete admiration of many girls in our team giving the sport a go for the first time, bringing football back to life for us!
