STA Shines in Grand Finale at VEX V5RC High Stakes Thailand Cup

On Saturday, 22nd February 2025, St Andrews International School Bangkok (STA) hosted the final VEX Robotics event of the season—the VEX V5RC High Stakes Thailand Cup—in collaboration with the RAT Foundation. The competition brought together 34 teams from across the Asia-Pacific region, featuring students from Years 9 to 13. This marked the grand finale of an incredible season, during which STA proudly hosted five major VEX Robotics events.

This friendly yet fiercely competitive tournament saw familiar teams and schools battling throughout the day, showcasing outstanding teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. One of the highlights was the performance of STA’s own teams (44448A–E). Unlike many competitors, our teams do not have the luxury of on-site coaching, as our staff are busy running the event. Despite this challenge, they have learned to be independent and push their limits. Their dedication paid off, with four teams ranking in the top 16, earning spots in the quarter-finals.

  • 44448B (Aadi, Alex, Senaa, Nana, Kevin, and Mathias) and 44448D (Keane, Nitnem, and Aryan) advanced to the semi-finals.

  • 44448C (Ari, Vivaan, Hrish, Radhika, Ananya, and Aaru) went all the way to the finals.

Additionally, STA teams achieved impressive awards:

  • 🏆 44448CAmaze Award
  • 🏆 44448DDesign Award (their third time winning this season)
  • 🏆 44448BEnergy Award

None of this would have been possible without the dedicated STA team. A huge thank you to Mr Rob for his leadership in growing and supporting VEX tournaments at STA, Mr Sam for managing tournament systems, and Ms Ashley for leading our panel of judges.

We also extend our gratitude to our Head Referees—Mike Duly, Mike Griffiths, Daniel Glowinski, and Bartek Moskwa—as well as to Mathew Sunny, who worked alongside Ms Ashley in judging.

Lastly, a special acknowledgement goes to our amazing student volunteers. It’s not just the competing teams that deserve recognition—this season, 50 students dedicated over 70 hours assisting Mr Rob in running tournaments and strengthening our robotics community.

👏 Thank you, STA students! 👏
